Lot 1469
1801. O-101, R-3. Sharpness of VG or better. We note some graffiti in the obverse field, scratches and rim marks. After a four-year hiatus, the Mint returned to Half Dollar production in 1801. Although the Draped Bust obverse remained current, the Small Eagle reverse yielded to one with a Heraldic Eagle that is credited to Robert Scot. Federal records indicate that 30,289 Half Dollars were delivered in 1801. The Mint achieved this total using a single obverse die and two reverse dies. Estimated Value $500 - 550

1803. Small 3. O-104. NGC graded AU Details. Improperly Cleaned. Even gold toning on both sides.

Mintage on the 1803 is listed as only 31,715 coined. However another 156,519 were struck during the year 1804, and most of these were surely dated 1803. This brings the total up to about 188,234 pieces, which seems reasonable as this date is fairly common in grades up to about Fine. In Extremely Fine and above, however, it is very scarce, and in Mint State condition any 1803 is a great rarity. The Half Dollar denomination was very popular and circulated widely; as a consequence, choice examples of any date before 1807 are rare and some dates (1801, 1802) are unknown in full Uncirculated. In fact, all Half Dollars before about 1810 are rare in full Mint State condition, as all were absorbed by the economy and none piled up in bank vaults as happened in the 1820s. Estimated Value $1,800 - 1,900

Lot 1474
1807 Draped Bust PCGS graded Genuine AU Details. Cleaning. Bright from an old cleaning, now turning a silvery-grey. Light die clash marks as almost always present on 1807 Bust Half Dollars of the Type. Excellent hair detail including drapery folds on Liberty's draped bust are just a few of the indications this was sharply struck for a Bust Half Dollar. The design, which was incorporated on the Dimes, Quarters and Half Dollars of 1807 comprise a worthwhile challenge for a Type collector (PCGS # 6079) Estimated Value $1,800 - 1,900
